Hello,

Thank you very much for your responce and help, I've got kon running
successefully so far but I am abit stuck with getting any other applications
but lynx to show correct characters.

I am able to run lynx (compiled from sources, not from package) under
kon if I set 'EUC-JP' as display character set, I am also able to read
manual pages which are attached to ja-* packages. However funny thing happens
when I try to read any mail posted to the list:

All writting appears to me in form like:

> ^[$B4d>k^[(B@^[$B?73cBg$G$9!#^[(B

Is it different encoding which is being used on the mailing list (message
headers says it is iso-2022-jp, and it looks like it matches euc-jp encoding
(I can read messages if I export them into files and use lynx to read it. However
vi shows me something like shown above as well, althrough with manual pages
vi/less doesn't have problems (as long as binary mode is on)). Same stuff I see with
mutt f.e. (both source-compiled and installed from ja-* package).

I am supposed to perform some screen re-mapping for it, or there's another way around?

For X window, I got netscape working fine (with extra japanese fonts) but a bit
stuck with configuring keyboard to type in japanese, and couldn't find Xfnon.tgz file
on the ftp site that you have pointed out. However kterm is still able to show
me katakana/hiragana (sp?) characters in X Window but not the words. I think
installing fonts should fix the problem as soon as I find where to fetch them
:). Will try to check out other FreeBSD mirrors. :)

Thanks a lot for all your help :)

regards
-Fyodor
