fygrave> Sorry for writting in english, I haven't got my box to talk/write japanese yet,
fygrave> I am running vanilla installation of FreeBSD and a bit stuck with getting it
fygrave> to support japanese keyboard/fonts. I've checked www.jp.freebsd.org and it
fygrave> looks like you have your own distribution which supports all these things by default.
fygrave> But the question is: is there any way to localise vanilla FreeBSD (4.x) box?

Well,If you want to read Japanese, you need to do each...
-Use "kon"(*1) to make console enable to show japanese charactor.
or
-Use "kterm"(*1) on X Window(*3).

Then you need to japanized less(called "jless"(*1)) when reading.
When write japanese,I think using "mule"(*2) is better.

Thank you.

(*1)
You can get this from "ftp://ftp.jp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-4-stable/japanese".

(*2)
Packaged mule has several type such as
the type binded with Canna, one done with Wnn4,one done with Sj3.
(Canna,Wnn4 and Sj3 is the name of Imput Method of Japanese on X Window
and Console.)
You can get this from
"ftp://ftp.jp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-4-stable/japanese".
But NEVER forget to get Imput Method of Japanese matching with "mule" Editor you get.

(*3)
You should add "Xfnon.tgz" to read japanese.
